2019 Season Kicks Off
The 2019 ladies football season kicks off in London in earnest this weekend, with three fixtures down to be played
In the Tom O Connor Cup, which is the cup for Junior teams, Tara host Dulwich Harps at the home of London Irish Rugby Club, in Sunbury. At the end of last season Dulwich Harps defeated Taras’s on their way to the league final by three points, with nothing between the teams. Both teams will be out to make a good start to the year.
There hasn’t been a football kicked yet in a competitive match in London, but these teams have met already in the 2019 season, playing each other in the semi final of the Junior B Paidi O Se competition in Ireland two weekends ago. The game, which also doubled at the Mary Feehan Cup final from 2018, saw KKG come out on top, and go on to claim the Junior B Paidi O Se title. Last season saw Round Towers defeat KKG in the Intermediate Championship final by the narrowest of margins, so there is quite a history building between these two clubs.
Last year’s Intermediate League champions Parnells get the defense of their title underway against last year’s Junior Championship winners Tir Chonaill Gaels. TCG showed well in the Junior A Paidi O Se tournament two weekends ago, beating two Kerry sides to reach the final, where they fell to a four point defeat against Dublin’s Ballyboden St Endas. This will be Parnell’s first outing of the season, and they will be anxious to get their title defense off to a good beginning.
