London bids farewell to Claire Towey

“London’s loss is Connacht’s gain”

Claire, who has been the London Ladies Development for the last three years, has relocated to Galway to take up a Development Officer position with Connacht GAA. Claire spearheaded an ambitious development plan, implementing proper structures for league and championship games at underage level, coordinating the work of the ladies board, the London youth board and coaches and clubs.

The underage scene has gone from strength to strength, with a doubling of the number of underage clubs from 3 to 7 – St Kiernan’s, North London Shamrocks, St Clarets and Gael Londain joining the already established Tir Chonaill Gaels, Parnells and Taras.

Along with Colleen Lynott and Ger O Shea, Towey helped the London under 14 girls become the first from Britain to win Feile silverware when they won the Division 6 Shield in 2017, a feat they repeated in the summer of 2018.

Chairperson Lucia Butler paid tribute to Claire’s hard work – “Claire will be sorely missed; she took her position very seriously and would always work with you. The (girls) game here has grown massively over the last two years. The registrations have really risen. She will be a hard act to follow”

On behalf of the London Ladies County Board Chairperson Lucia Butler and Treasurer Bernie McGourty made a presentation to Claire Towey for all her hard work and commitment and dedication in her capacity as London Ladies Development Officer over the years.
